About Temple Newsam

Learn fascinating facts about past residents who lived and worked here going under the ropes and behind the scenes. With over 500 years of history it has been home to many colourful characters. Learn about them and explore this atmospheric property and marvel at the beautifully crafted interiors.

During it’s history, the property was seized by Henry VIII and was gifted to his niece. The house became the birthplace of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots and father of James I.

For the last 100 years, Temple Newsam has been owned by the City of Leeds for the enjoyment of all. Discover the treasure trove of furniture, ceramics, textiles, silver and wallpaper.

The tour will be preceeded by tea/coffee and biscuits and followed by a light lunch in the courtyard café and a walk through the gardens and the famous Rhododendron Way.
