There are currently no planned visits to Harewood House in 2022
This property was constructed between 1759 and 1771 designed by architects John Carr and Robert Adam for Edwin Lascelles, 1st Baron of Harewood. The landscape was designed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown and covers 1000 acres. Like our other stately home excursions it enjoys Grade 1 listed building status.
The house remains largely untouched since construction apart from the extensions in 1840’s when Henry Lascelles added second storeys to the house his 13 children! The property still remains as the family seat for the Lascelles family and home of the 8th Earl Lascelles.
Our Queens Aunt, The Princess Royal Mary lived here from the 1940s and the events team are providing a conducted tour of the galleries, libraries and state bedrooms here at Harewood. The Queen visited her aunt on a few occasions when she was a little girl as her father George v1 was Princess Mary’s younger brother.
On arrival our coach will be met by a member of Harewood House who will escort us to The Billiard Room for a private lunch. Please see the attached menu on our itinerary. If the weather permits we will be eating on the terrace overlooking the breath-taking landscape of Leeds. We will then be given a guided tour of the house.
Shuttle buses are at our disposal to take customers to and from the carpark from the house and gardens and there will be a shuttle bus for those who wish to take us to the Bird Garden. Here you will see 40 year old Flamingos, penguins and other beautiful birds, who have been in residence for many years and which cost £4000 per annum to feed each!!
There is also time to wander around the exquisitely manicured gardens but for those less energetic a bench with an ice cream in the formal gardens might provide the ideal resting place for quiet reflection and contemplation or conversation.
