There are currently no planned visits to Castle Howard in 2022
This is really a house like no other. Our trip will disembark around noon and to avoid queues we have arranged for express admission. It is a short walk from the courtyard entrance to the English Baroque Style House where a luncheon awaits you in a private dining room.
After a light lunch you will be admitted to the public areas of the house and chapel.
Construction of the house commenced in 1699 by the 3rd Earl of Carlisle but took over 100 years to complete. To this day part of the house remains in residence of the Honourable Nicholas Howard and his wife Victoria who now manage the estate.
For those of us of a certain age we will remember the magnificent scenes that we shot here for the adaptation of the book Brideshead Revisited. Starring Anthony Andrews as Sebastian and Jeremy Irons who could forget! It was also used as a location for the Netflix Series Bridgerton. Castle Howard is famous in its own right and the scenery and landscape is not to be missed. It has a majestic feel to it. The house contains many exquisite marble statues brought back from Italy in the 17/18th century and many original paintings. Many interiors are decorated by Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini. After a tour of the house you will be free to wander the diverse gardens and inspect the famous Atlas Fountain -one Temple of the Four Winds. In addition the walled gardens contains decorative rose and flower gardens.
Please see our itinerary for the day with dates planned to visit.
